A group of 26 Meta employees sued the company.
They say Meta used AI systems to choose people for layoffs.
The system targeted workers on medical, parental, or family leave.
This was unfair, they say.
The lawsuit is in a federal court in Oakland, California.
It says Meta used internal AI tools.
It also used keystroke monitoring and algorithm scores.
These tools helped decide who to lay off.
The plaintiffs say workers on leave could not get the same scores as active workers.
Meta did not think about leave when it used these scores, the lawsuit says.
Many of the 26 employees took pregnancy or parental leave.
Others took medical leave for disabilities.
One employee said a manager warned him.
The manager said taking approved leave would lead to layoff selection.
About half of the plaintiffs took leave for caregiving or pregnancy.
Meta said the claims are not true.
It said people, not AI, made the decisions.
The lawsuit says Meta broke several federal laws.
These include the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
It also talks about "disparate impact."
This is a legal idea.
The Trump administration wants to stop using it.
The plaintiffs' lawyers want to keep the workers in their jobs.
They are waiting for arbitration.
They say the layoffs will cause bad harm that cannot be fixed.
