The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a bill.
The bill makes daylight saving time permanent.
Many members voted for it.
The Senate must still pass the bill.
Then it can become law.
President Donald Trump said he supports it.
The bill would stop changing clocks twice a year.
That happens in spring and fall.
An AP-NORC poll last year found a result.
Only 12% of American adults liked the current system.
Almost half of them did not like it.
Some groups want one time all year.
These groups include the American Medical Association.
They also include the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
America tried permanent daylight saving time before.
That was in the 1970s.
Congress passed a law in 1973.
The trial was from January 1974 to April 1975.
But it lasted only until October 1974.
People were very unhappy.
So the law was ended.
A big worry was about schoolchildren.
They would have to go to school in the dark.
Kevin Birth is a professor at Queens College.
He remembers the experience well.
He said it was "pitch black" during the school day.
Birth said clocks are not the only thing to change.
The U.S. has four time zones now.
Sunrise times are very different in each zone.
So the zones would need changes.
