Actor Sam Neill has tragically succumbed to pneumonia, and a private family memorial will be held posthumously at his New Zealand farm, his agent confirmed on Thursday.

The family of Sam Neill, the actor renowned for his roles in "Jurassic Park," "The Piano," and other cinematic works, had previously announced his demise in Sydney on Monday.

His agent, Philip Grenz, stated that he was furnishing further details subsequent to his discussions with Neill’s family and in light of media reports “which contain inaccuracies and outright falsehoods,” he said.

“Sam succumbed to pneumonia,” Grenz stated.

“Prior to falling ill, Sam had valiantly fought and overcome lymphoma through an innovative treatment known as CAR-T therapy.”

He further remarked that Neill had completed four projects “back-to-back” over the preceding year, all of which are slated for release in the forthcoming months.

“As Sam was an intensely private individual who abhorred any form of commotion, his family will honour him with a private familial memorial at his farm in New Zealand at a date yet to be determined,” Grenz stated.

The New Zealand actor disclosed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and stated in April of this year that he was in remission.

CAR-T therapy constitutes a form of immunotherapy predicated on an individual’s T cells and is employed in the treatment of several haematological malignancies.

The statement issued by his agent came on the heels of several days of tributes from colleagues within the film industry, who recollected Neill as a man of profound kindness, sharp wit, and insatiable intellectual curiosity.

“You are so loved and will be sorely missed by us all,” wrote director Taika Waititi, who helmed Neill in the 2016 feature “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”—among Neill’s most cherished films in New Zealand—on Instagram this Wednesday.

“I adore you and anticipate our imminent reunion, dearest Nigel,” Waititi wrote, alluding to Neill’s given name, which he disclosed to interviewers he had altered to Sam during his schooldays, owing to an overabundance of Nigels in his class.

"Sam was exceptionally collaborative," remarked Steven Spielberg, who helmed the inaugural "Jurassic Park" film, in which Neill portrayed the paleontologist Alan Grant.
