Warren Buffett said his decision to stop donating to the Gates Foundation has a main reason.
His three children are ready to manage his fortune.
It is not because of Bill Gates' ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Buffett called Gates' association with Epstein "distasteful."
But he said everyone makes mistakes in choosing people.
He read about Gates and Epstein.
He noted that Gates ended the relationship.
Buffett announced he will donate all his remaining Berkshire Hathaway stock to his family's foundations.
Gates was not surprised.
He visited Buffett in Omaha weeks before the announcement.
Gates called Buffett a dear friend.
He also called him one of the greatest philanthropists.
The Gates Foundation still has nearly $90 billion in its endowment.
Buffett wants his shares distributed by the end of 2034.
This is faster than planned.
He will need to donate over $17 billion annually.
He currently gives about $6 billion to his family foundations.
After his death, a new foundation will distribute the rest.
His children will decide unanimously.
Buffett broke his leg recently.
But he is recovering well.
He believes Greg Abel is the right leader for Berkshire Hathaway.
Buffett noted that Berkshire's big investment in Alphabet was his own choice.
It was not Abel's choice.
