The United States will put 25% tariffs on some goods from Brazil.
This starts on July 22.
The move comes after a one-year study by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
The study found unfair trade actions by Brazil.
These include weak rules against corruption and its own unfair tariffs.
Some goods are free from the tariffs.
These include coffee, beef, oranges, orange juice, some energy products, and parts for airplanes.
Officials said these items are not made in the U.S.
Or not taxing them would stop problems with supply chains.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the action makes a fair situation for American workers and companies.
He added that talks with Brazil over the past year did not fix the problems.
The U.S. has sold more goods to Brazil than it bought for years.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was angry.
He blamed his political rival, Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Lula did not talk honestly.
The tariffs come from Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
