The government lost a lot of money because some people lied about being unemployed.

But the police found this problem before, a long time ago.

A report said many very old or very young people got money from the government for jobs.

People had different ideas about the tweet. Some did not believe it. Some liked it very much. Elon Musk read it many times because it was surprising.

He said the numbers were not good.

But Chavez-DeRemer can look at her office. People in the office said this bad thing happened.

They say the government is bad and does not find problems, but the government knows about the problems.

A law in 1935 gave money to people without jobs. Each state had its own way to help people get this money.

States help people who don't have jobs. But the big government gives extra money and helps more people.

Before, some places that help people without jobs worked well, some not so well, and some very badly. When many people lost jobs because of the virus, more places were very bad.

In 2020, a new rule gave extra money to people who lost their jobs because of COVID. But some people lied to get this money. This was not fair.

The paper said states can make a fake claim for people whose name was stolen to get money. This helps states remember the fake claim and keeps good people safe.

Some people got money for jobs they did not have. These people were very old or very young. This happened because of mistakes with birth dates.

The memo says many claims were not for people over 100 years old. They were 'fake records' of claims that were not good.

A woman from the government did not answer questions about what Mr. Musk found.

DOGE looked for a long time at fake claims. It found some, but it was a very small amount. Investigators already knew about much more.

In 2022, the government said people took a lot of money, $45 billion. They did this by cheating with money for people who lost their jobs. Later, another government group said it was even more, maybe $100 billion or $135 billion.

Amy Traub says, "Many people know this. The news talked about it a lot. Government groups had meetings about it."

This new story is like the old stories about money for people who died or are very old. The old stories were not true.

So, DOGE is not good to tell people things, even when bad things happen, like people losing their jobs.

Jessica writes many articles about saving government money. She thinks some people cheat to get unemployment money. But she does not trust the group called DOGE. She thinks DOGE does not work well and maybe does bad things.

When DOGE says old people get money from the government, I don't believe him. Reidl says, "DOGE is often wrong."

Traub said states made new rules because some people lied to get money when many people lost jobs. She asked why Musk's team said old problems were new.

Business leaders and economists are saying the country might have a recession, so people are thinking about losing their jobs. This is bad for a very important program. Maybe someone wants people to stop supporting help for people who lose their jobs. This help is very important now.
