China chose a new person to talk about trade with other countries on Wednesday.

The government said Li Chenggang is the new person. He takes the place of Wang Shouwen. Wang Shouwen worked on the trade deal between China and the U.S. in 2020.

Two big countries put more taxes on things they buy from each other. One country has to pay a lot more tax than others.

China's economy grew 5.4% at the start of the year because it sold many things to other countries. But some people think it will go slower soon because of new taxes on things from China.

China's economy grew 5% in 2024. Exports helped it grow.

Beijing put higher taxes on some things from America.

Higher taxes will make China's economy a little difficult now, but it will still grow later, a government person said.

China changed its talks team. It's not clear why. China says it can use its own market of 1.4 billion people. Or Europe and other countries. But people in China are not buying a lot now. So it's hard to replace U.S. buyers.

China also stopped selling some special materials. These materials are used in computers and planes.

Before this job, Li worked for about 4 and a half years. He was China's ambassador to the World Trade Organization. This group helps countries trade with each other.

He also worked for China at the United Nations in Switzerland.

He also worked for the Ministry of Trade.

Li studied law in China. He also studied economics in Germany.
